Top thirty crime procedurals, #26: Mannix

IMDB link.

Basic premise: Guy opens detective agency, gets shot in the shoulder 4000 times an episode. (Sometimes, he got shot in the leg!)

Why it’s here: Theme music helps. Mannix, as a character, was somewhat sub-par, but it was surprisingly action oriented for a late 60s/early 70s cop show. I still can’t get over the fact that there was never any blood. Huge props for trying to work in a computer angle; ahead of its time in that regard.

Why it isn’t higher: Honestly? Mannix the character was boring. Even as a kid watching this show, I knew he was never in danger. The criminals were better shots than Stormtroopers, since they actually hit Mannix with frightening regularity, but they had to have special marksman training to always hit him in the freakin’ shoulder.
