On the disconnects between a headline and the article

Paul Hoynes is pretty solid, 99% of the time, and I have to think this was an editor’s decision.

Here’s the headline in question:

Jason Giambi is talking World Series for Cleveland Indians — honest

And here’s the quote that they highlighted, with big type and everything:

“Literally, we have an opportunity. It’s not unthinkable to say these guys have a chance. Especially after what we did last year, the returning players we have and the pickups that we made. That’s not out of the realm.”

Therefore, Jason Giambi is saying that the Cleveland Indians have a non-zero chance to make the World Series, in as backhanded a way as humanly possible. The headline would suggest more of a “the Indians are going to the World Series, baby!” moment. You decide!
