Kevin’s Favorite Science Fiction Shows: #18 — Alien Nation

Alien Nation

IMDB link

General idea:  if aliens exist, we’d discriminate against them, too.

Interesting because:  The plots were generally pretty solid and we were able to see a humanization of an alien species.  This is a classic struggle of assimilation in a fairly hostile environment.  I think part of my enjoyment of the series also ties back to the original movie.

Annoying because:  Preachy much?  From what I had read, the director wanted the series to take a harder sci-fi tone but Fox basically wanted an alien buddy cop comedy.  Also, ’80s hair (and production values).

Best season(s):  1

Worst season(s):  N/A — only lasted one season, although there were 5 movies made a few years later

    • Yeah, it’s kind of interesting how little overlap we’ve had. I’m thinking about doing a cross-comparison chart as a wrap-up post after I unveil my #1 series, so we can see how much difference of opinion there is even among two people who share a good number of common interests.
