Deadspin has a hilarious yet accurate article on those individuals who don’t like the idea that New Orleans is going from the Hornets to the Pelicans.
Tyler Durden of ZeroHedge points out some of the insanity of our welfare state: a single mother earning $29,000 a year has a higher take-home pay than a single mother earning $69,000 a year. This isn’t new—Milton Friedman and Henry Hazlitt debated this same topic 45 years ago in National Review, where Friedman argued for a negative income tax and Hazlitt pointed out the “gap” once that negative tax wears off, thereby creating a disincentive for work.
And note that this is post-AFDC. Before 1996, these numbers were even worse.
