The Results Of Socialized Medicine

Another round of notes regarding socialized medicine:

• Job loss in the medical innovation field.
• Job loss in general.  Even if you keep your job, because Obamacare considers 30 hours a week to be full-time, expect to see a lot more 29-hour workers and people with two jobs to allow companies to get around increasing health insurance costs.
• Waivers are going away, leading to more job loss.
• Hospital negligence in the UK.  As John Hinderaker points out,

In the meantime, here is health care as it should be done.  Get rid of layers of bureaucracy and have people pay directly.  Then you’ll see real prices and real competition.  Most of the “prices” we see are hugely inflated jokes.  The dollar amount you see on the hospital bill is so high because they know insurance will only pay 20-25%, so they increase the rate to what (given their expectations of the insurance company’s expected payout) covers their costs.  And with the actual consumer footing almost none of the bill, there’s no reason to do any kind of price-based competition.
