– Dede Scozzafava has dropped out of the NY-23 race. This makes it much more likely that Doug Hoffman wins, and makes the NRCC dumping money into her campaign even more of a stupid idea.
– Marco Rubio may just win the Florida primary. The likelihood is low that he’ll bet Charlie Crist, but p > 0. I could see either of them winning in the general election—they’re both popular politicians in Florida. As such, going with Buckley’s Dictum (vote for the most rightward viable candidate), I’d much rather see Rubio win.
* – “RINO” is a great acronym, but functionally meaningless, at least in this sense. Dwight Eisenhower was a RINO—he wasn’t really a member of either political party and just picked one because he could win. Charlie Crist isn’t really a conservative, but he’s definitely a Republican; the same goes with Dede Scozzafava, who is a relic of a time gone by (the left-wing Republican, like a LaFollette) but presumably a Republican out of something more than sheer electoral device.
