Barack Obama fired an independent Inspector General, apparently for no good reason (but a very bad one). Gerald Walpin had rooted out corruption on the part of Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson, in which Johnson used AmeriCorps fund to hire people to wash his car and other important tasks that the designers of the AmeriCorps program certainly thought good. Obama quickly responded in Chicagoland style by firing Walpin. That’s what he gets for discovering corruption with an Obama crony!
Ironically enough, Obama’s firing directly violates the 2008 Inspectors General Reform Act, an act which Obama co-sponsored. Granted, in Chicagoland, that kind of legislation only applies to Republicans and opponents of the gang in charge, but the US isn’t Chicagoland…yet…
It also turns out that Michelle Obama may be part of this. Certain Senate Democrats are opposed to the firings, probably because they see this as a terrible issue to be on the wrong side of. And Obama has learned that with watchdog firings, once you pop, you just can’t stop.
