The Correct Response

Filed under: Economics — Kevin Feasel @ 7:12 pm

Dick Langlois has a great response to a letter signed by a lot of airline CEOs and sent out via e-mail.  Futures markets are relatively obscure, particularly compared to stock markets (which are esoteric enough for most people).  The idea of betting on the right to sell or buy things that you’ll never actually want to own (and instead will ship the rights off to somebody who does upon collection) is strange for people who are used to thinking in terms of spot markets, so there is a lot of room for demagoguery rather than, you know, actually fixing the problems which exist and/or allowing spontaneous human action to sort things out.
