I know, it scares me too. Unlike the Cubs winning the World Series, which Kevin is convinced will cause the Apocalypse, this is now borderline possible. The Browns had to improve this year through free agency or trades; they simply don’t have a 1st round pick (and don’t have a 2nd or 3rd round pick either now). Their principal need was a defensive line; other nice things to have would be some more defensive depth and another wideout.
Here’s what we got.
2nd round pick to GB for DE Corey Williams.
3rd round pick and CB Leigh Bodden ( :( ) to DET for DT Shaun Rogers
Signed Donte’ Stallworth.
And we’re just getting started!
I’m not sure I like gutting our draft like this (now we have no pick until the 4th round), but Williams and Rogers are great pickups. I am sad to see Bodden go, but he apparently wanted a shit ton of money and it’s not like trading him to Detroit will hurt us. The Browns still have some cap money to play with, so they’ll probably replace Bodden with an FA (admittedly, slim pickings) or resigning Gary Baxter in the hopes he’ll finally play well. Anderson and Lewis were resigned, so our offense will return, with everybody a year more experienced. I’m worried about the secondary, but if we get the kind of pressure and run stopping ability our new line affords, it should be a net gain. Keep it comin’, Brownies, keep it comin’.
